RADON GAS TESTING

Radon is a health hazard with a simple solution

Radon is a radioactive gas that is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers in the world. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates. Overall, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year. About 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked.

Unfortunately, it’s often impossible for you to know when there are dangerously high levels of radon in your home. Aardvark Home Inspectors provides a radon gas test performed by certified home inspectors. Our trained inspectors are committed to keeping you safe from potential environmental hazards, such as radon gas, that may be in your home.

Many times, the equipment to detect radon levels in the home is above and beyond the scope of anything you can pick up at the hardware store. This is why it is so critical to call us for a 48-hour continuous monitoring test, using state-of-the-art radon detection equipment.

About Radon

Radon is a radioactive element that cannot be detected by the senses and requires a full-service home inspection company to perform a radon test. Radon enters your home through gaps in the foundation or poorly ventilated crawlspaces.

Although you can’t smell it or taste it, radon is naturally occurring and may exist in dangerous levels in your home without you even knowing it. It generally seeps into the basement or crawlspace of your home through the soil. If left unchecked, radon can reach dangerous levels and cause serious problems.

Radon Resistant Construction

Unfortunately, the Midwest leads the US in unsafe levels of this harmful gas, according to the EPA. Many states now require radon-resistant construction for new houses.

U.S EPA
Information

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says radon causes up to 14 percent of all lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S.

Know Before You Buy

If you’re in the process of buying a home, you should order a radon test first thing. Resolving a radon gas problem can be time-intensive as well as extremely costly. Make sure that you don’t have a radon problem before purchasing a new home. This may save you a lot of money in the long run.

The Radon Testing Process

Radon Mobile Lab

Our radon tests are performed by using both electret ion chambers and continuous monitoring systems. The monitors are placed in the proper location for at least 48 hours. It measures the radon level hourly and averages the results for the duration of the test. At the conclusion of the test, we print out an easy to read line graph that clearly shows the hourly results and average concentrations of radon in your home.
