Wood destroying insect inspection (termite inspections) Do I need one?!

There is a large amount of people that think when they are ordering a general home inspection during the purchase of their new home that this would also include wood destroying insects.

This would be insects similar but not limited to Termites, Carpenter Ants, and Powder Post Beetles. However what most people do not realize is that the WDI inspection requires a different license then a general home inspectors license, and a lot of inspectors do not carry this license.

The other issue is a large amount of home inspectors do not have the knowledge to diagnose the damage, and or insects. Sometimes the WDI inspection is required for the loan on the home.

Examples of this would be a USDA, and or VA loan type. Did you know that insects like these do billions of dollars worth or damage per year, AND these items are not typically covered by homeowners insurance policies.

Discovering these items during the purchase of the home can potentially get the treatments, and damages covered by the seller, and or at least let you know what you are dealing with.

The typical cost for a service such as this is anywhere from $75.00-$250.00. Some companies such as ours (Aardvark Pest Control Inc) actually warranty the inspection. For example if we said the home was termite free, and a few months later the home was to get termites then Aardvark Pest Control would take care of it (check warranty policy for exact coverage).

WDI inspections are not just for home sellers, and or buyers every homeowner should have their home checked annually for wood destroying pests.

Even if you were to get termites it could save you thousands to know early, and avoid damage to your home.
